This customer brought us a gaming PC that was overheating and having issues with performance. We quickly took a look and determined that the CPU fan needed to be replaced due to excessive build-up on the heat sink that was unable to be removed.
We replaced their existing fan and heat sink with a newer and improved version and their system was running cooler than ever!
If you are having issues with your gaming computer or want an upgrade please give us a call.
This customer wanted the latest and greatest video card for high resolution gaming on a huge monitor so they needed to upgrade their video card. They had a Nvidia 780TI, which was top of the line just a few years ago, but wanted something newer and faster for the latest games and their new, large monitor.
They chose the Nvidia 1080TI graphics card as the current champion in high resolution gaming. We replaced the existing card and loaded the updated drivers and patches to ensure that it was operating at peak performance in their custom build gaming PC.
After a few further adjustments to tweak the new gaming monitor to work with their new graphics card they were ready to go.
If you want to upgrade your gaming PC but aren’t sure where to start or what you might need then please give us a call. We can make it as painless as possible to get you back in action!
One of the many services we provide at The Asheville Computer Company is hardware upgrades. A commonly requested service is to upgrade the computer’s graphics card to play games more smoothly or to increase the processing power for business related design and modeling programs.
We recently upgraded a gaming machine from a standard issue graphics card to one of the newest available and powerful cards, the GTX 1070.
The customer was unable to play some modern games, at all, with their old graphics card, but with the new card the games run very smooth and will for a long time.
The benchmarks on the new graphics card were 3x – 5x better with the new card!
If you needs a graphics card upgrade for gaming or your 3D design software or are curious about other upgrades that will help your computer run better and more efficiently please give us a call to discuss your options.
We have gathered some recent before and after photos from computers (PCs and Macs) that needed a good cleaning inside and out.
The fans on these computers continuously draw in air, dirt and dust that will eventually clog vents and cause it to overheat. This reduces the lifespan of your devices and can cause premature failure, reduce speed and functionality.
Your computer needs regular maintenance for the software and hardware. If your computer isn't running like it should bring it to us and we will get it back in shape for the new year.
This HP Compaq computer was a bit older and hadn’t had regular maintenance in quite a while. The customer reported that it was running slow for a while and now started shutting down on it’s own.
As you can see from the before and after photos it was very dirty inside causing it to overheat and shut down to keep from doing damage to the motherboard and CPU. The CPU fan and heat sink were completely clogged with dust and not effective anymore. Once the dust has covered the fins on the heat sink the fan can no longer do it’s job. If this customer didn’t bring the computer in it would have eventually been damaged beyond repair.
We thoroughly cleaned the inside and outside of the PC to make sure there was proper airflow and it could cool effectively. We also replaced a fan that had been damaged by trying to work too hard to cool off the computer. Now it starts up and runs like new!
If it’s been a while since you have had your computer cleaned then give us a call! A little maintenance goes a long way in keeping your computer running as long as possible.
The customer reported that their fairly new Dell Studio XPS would no longer turn on after a recent storm. Most of the time when pushing the power button it would turn a faint yellow color but it would not boot and there was no noise as if it was starting up.
We diagnosed it over the phone as a bad power supply and when we got it into the shop that is exactly what we found. The power supply was replaced and got it back up and running with no issues. We also took the chance to upgrade the power supply to a more powerful, reliable and cooler running model.
If your computer won’t boot or seems to have power issues bring it us to check it out and get you back up and running.

This Mac Mini was a couple of years old and was due for some upgrades. It was working OK, but was bogging down on videos and some common tasks. We took a look and noticed that the RAM was low for today’s standards and also we could gain a large speed boost by upgrading the hard drive to a new SSD drive.
We upgraded the RAM to 8GB of DDR3 laptop style memory and cloned the hard drive over to a new 500 GB solid state drive. While the original computer came with 4GB of RAM it’s a little low for today’s computing needs. 8GB of RAM is quickly becoming the standard for modern computers and that’s what this user needed to ensure that the computer wouldn’t be slowed down by running out of RAM when editing large files in Photoshop or even browsing the web with multiple tabs open at the same time.
The new SSD hard drive is what gives this Mac Mini it’s biggest speed boost. Removing the old and slow mechanical drive and replacing it with a solid state hard drive makes this Mac Mini faster than it was when it was brand new. It also reduces heat and fan noise which can be a concern on these older Mac Mini computers.
If you have a Mac, either old or new, it can probably be upgraded to make it faster or add years to an aging machine. This can save you the cost of replacing an expensive computer.
We collect quite a few dead hard drives both from desktops and laptops and they need to be properly disposed of so that their data doesn’t get into the wrong hands. We gathered up some of the recent hard drives we’ve replaced from customer systems for a quick photo shoot before destroying them.
When a hard drive is replaced we usually give the customer 30 days or so to make sure that all data was recovered before we destroy the original drive. It’s important to give that time to ensure that all data that is recoverable is recovered and once it’s verified that the drive be destroyed beyond reasonable means of recovery.
Hard drives even when erased can still contain financial, personal and sensitive information that should not be made available to someone with physical access to the drive.
