Is your WIFI terrible? Do you have dead spots or WIFI only in certain areas? Wouldn’t it be great to have strong, working WIFI all over your house?
Great WIFI is more important now than ever with dozens of devices connecting in the normal home.
We use and support the Google WIFI mesh system to solve issues with bad WIFI. We have installed and configured over 50 of these devices in the past year for our customers and have had great results.
Whether you have a large house and have difficulty with coverage or just want WIFI with a strong signal that can handle the large number of devices we see in a modern household then this system is for you. Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on one of the “super routers” and still have issues with a weak signal. We can setup this system in your home and it’s scalable from 1000 sq. ft. to 7000 sq. ft. or larger. We can design a system to ensure that you have WIFI when and where you need it.
If you have issues in your current home, are building a home or would just like to discuss your options please give us a call. You don’t have to live with bad WIFI anymore.
If you have a business and have similar WIFI issues we can design, implement and support rock solid, commercial WIFI and networking solutions also.
Dirt, dust and debris can slow down, damage and even destroy your computer. It doesn’t matter if you have a desktop, laptop, Mac or PC it has a fan or fans and constantly draws in air for cooling along with dust, pet hair, moisture and just about anything else floating around. Over time this builds up in the fans causing them to slow down or stop working. When the fans aren’t working correctly the computer will overheat, slow down, shut down or cause damage to sensitive components inside.
If your computer is more than a year or two old and hasn’t be blown out and checked for issues bring it to the Asheville Computer Company. As part of our standard diagnosis we clean out, thoroughly, all fans and ventilation. We will also check out all hardware and scan for infections of malware, viruses and nuisance programs.
If you have any questions about this service or any service we provide please let us know. We are glad to answer any questions.
Here at Asheville Computer Company, we can service your gaming machine. Anything from diagnosing, replacing parts, or even building you a custom machine we can do it all! The customer reported that their fairly new Dell Studio XPS would no longer turn on after a recent storm. Most of the time when pushing the power button it would turn a faint yellow color but it would not boot and there was no noise as if it was starting up.
We diagnosed it over the phone as a bad power supply and when we got it into the shop that is exactly what we found. The power supply was replaced and got it back up and running with no issues. We also took the chance to upgrade the power supply to a more powerful, reliable and cooler running model.
If your computer won’t boot or seems to have power issues bring it us to check it out and get you back up and running.
If you are on Windows 7 or 8 and want the free upgrade to Windows 10 then you only have a few more months.
We recommend you make sure your computer is in great shape and ready for the upgrade before making the move. This will ensure it goes smoothly and that if problems arise we can take care of them.

This customer brought us a newer Dell laptop that wouldn’t boot into Windows anymore and would only get a blue screen of death. The blue screen will show you the error that caused the boot issue but will often times be cryptic or cover a wide variety of possible issues. Through some troubleshooting we can determine if it’s a software issue caused by some corruption or a hardware issue.
In this case, the hard drive had physically failed either due to a manufacturing defect or wear and tear. Laptops are prone to have issues with traditional spinning hard drives as the platters inside spin at a very high rate of speed (5400 or 7200 revolutions per minute). If the laptop is dropped of moved suddenly there can be physical damage inside the hard drive that can manifest immediately or degrade the performance over time.
We replaced the old hard drive with a smaller solid state hard drive. This should keep any physical problems from occurring in the future, as it has no moving parts. While the ruggedness of the SSD drive is a great benefit the even greater benefit is the tremendously increase speed of the computer. Modern computers with a solid state drive installed will boot and be ready for use in less than 30 seconds and respond immediately to any user actions, such as opening files, playing videos and editing photos.
If you have an issue with your computer that seems to be getting slower over time or you are receiving messages about potential hard drive issues please contact us today to setup an appointment.
If you aren’t having issues but want to prevent possible hard drive failure or just want a speed boost then we can help you there too.
If you have a PC and have QuickTime installed it’s time to get rid of it quick 🙂
Apple and the US government are telling customers with a Windows operating system that QuickTime is no longer being updated and has potential security issues that could let hackers into your computer.
Quicktime was used as a video player in the past but hasn’t had a major update on the Windows side since 2005. On the Mac side it’s last major update was in 2009 and Apple will continue to support it there.
Quicktime is still available for download as some users still need it for certain programs and activities but the vast majority of users haven’t used it in a long time and don’t need it anymore.
As of now, there aren’t any known cases of an infection through one of these vulnerabilities but it’s probably only a matter of time before they are exploited.
You can check out the CCN Money article below for more details.
Quicktime can be removed through the normal Windows uninstall process but if you have any issues or aren’t quite sure how to do it please contact us. In most cases we can connect remotely and get it uninstalled in a very short time.
