Microsoft has recently changed the status of the the upgrade to Windows 10 from an “OPTIONAL” update to “RECOMMENDED”. This doesn’t mean there is more reason to upgrade than before but it does mean that you may see a confusing prompt that the upgrade to Windows 10 has started.
If you get the Windows screen that tells you the upgrade has started (similar to picture below) you will need to decline to keep the upgrade from proceeding. You will probably get several more prompts between now and July 2016 for the upgrade and will need to decline every time.
If you are upgraded to Windows 10 without clicking Accept or without your knowledge you still have 30 days to revert back to Windows 7 or 8.
