MacOS High Sierra has been available for a couple of weeks now and we are ready to upgrade your Mac to the latest version. If you are hesitant about upgrading to new releases of macOS or not sure how it works, we can help.
Instead of you upgrading and taking a chance that you have issues or the upgrade fails let us do it for you. We take the time to do a full system backup prior to upgrade. This keeps your computer and data safe if the update results in issues or fails. You can be sure that your data is safe prior to the upgrade. We upgrade you to the latest version, check compatibility with existing programs and perform additional updates as necessary. We will also check for overall system health and recommend maintenance or upgrades where possible.
High Sierra is compatible with the following models:
MacBook (Late 2009 or later) MacBook Air (2010 or later) MacBook Pro (2010 or later) Mac mini (2010 or later) Mac Pro (2010 or later) iMac (Late 2009 or later)
If you own one of the models above give us a call to get your worry-free upgrade to macOS High Sierra.
If you have an earlier model Mac and want to get upgraded to a previous version of macOS we can help with that too. We can upgrade to any older version of macOS with the same safe process.
This iMac was brought to us with the usual issues from a Mac of this age. The user reported that it was running very slow and the fans were loud. They wanted to know if they should spend the money to replace it or was there something that could be done to bring it back to life.
The price of a new iMac could range from $1200 to well over $2000 for a top of the line machine. The truth is that most people don’t need the latest and greatest Mac to do the things they need to do on a computer.
We were able to replace the old and worn out spinning hard drive with a new super fast SSD drive. This new drive is 10x faster than the old drive and runs considerably cooler and quieter. We also took the opportunity to clean the fans and vents to ensure that everything was cooling properly.
We were able to clone the old drive over to the new SSD so the only difference the user saw was the tremendous speed increase. All their files and programs were exactly as they were before the upgrade.
The end result was an iMac that actually ran faster, quieter and cooler than it did when it was new out of the box. It was taking over 5 mins for it to boot up to the desktop before the upgrade. After the upgrade it was ready to go in under 30 seconds and applications responded almost immediately when clicked.
If you have an older Mac and are considering upgrading due to slow performance or space issues then please give us a call first to explore your options. We may be able to upgrade your hard drive or increase your RAM to give you the performance boost you need to make your Mac last.
We can save you thousands over the price of a new computer.
This customer had a Macbook that was only a couple years old but had been dropped a few times and had some wear and tear on the outside and inside. As a result, the hard drive had been damaged and refused to boot. The failed hard drive was so badly damaged no data could be recovered directly from the drive. There was also some visible damage on the outside along with a very common problem with Mac laptops, missing feet.
We replaced the hard drive with a new solid state drive (SSD) and restored their data from a time machine backup. As a result of having a good backup they didn’t lose any data even though the hard drive failed.
They get the added benefit of having a much faster hard drive and it protects against any future drops or falls the laptop may take that would damage a normal spinning hard drive.
Don’t wait for your laptop hard drive to fail before bringing it to us for a repair. If your laptop has been dropped or treated roughly and you think it’s slowing down, as a result, bring it to us to have it checked out.
This Mac Mini was a couple of years old and was due for some upgrades. It was working OK, but was bogging down on videos and some common tasks. We took a look and noticed that the RAM was low for today’s standards and also we could gain a large speed boost by upgrading the hard drive to a new SSD drive.
We upgraded the RAM to 8GB of DDR3 laptop style memory and cloned the hard drive over to a new 500 GB solid state drive. While the original computer came with 4GB of RAM it’s a little low for today’s computing needs. 8GB of RAM is quickly becoming the standard for modern computers and that’s what this user needed to ensure that the computer wouldn’t be slowed down by running out of RAM when editing large files in Photoshop or even browsing the web with multiple tabs open at the same time.
The new SSD hard drive is what gives this Mac Mini it’s biggest speed boost. Removing the old and slow mechanical drive and replacing it with a solid state hard drive makes this Mac Mini faster than it was when it was brand new. It also reduces heat and fan noise which can be a concern on these older Mac Mini computers.
If you have a Mac, either old or new, it can probably be upgraded to make it faster or add years to an aging machine. This can save you the cost of replacing an expensive computer.
We collect quite a few dead hard drives both from desktops and laptops and they need to be properly disposed of so that their data doesn’t get into the wrong hands. We gathered up some of the recent hard drives we’ve replaced from customer systems for a quick photo shoot before destroying them.
When a hard drive is replaced we usually give the customer 30 days or so to make sure that all data was recovered before we destroy the original drive. It’s important to give that time to ensure that all data that is recoverable is recovered and once it’s verified that the drive be destroyed beyond reasonable means of recovery.
Hard drives even when erased can still contain financial, personal and sensitive information that should not be made available to someone with physical access to the drive.
This Toshiba laptop was brought to us by a customer who complained of it being slow. It was only a couple of years old and had a great processor and a good amount of RAM so the only culprit had to be the slow hard drive.
We replace the old mechanical hard drive with a super fast SSD drive and cloned over the user’s data. When the customer received the laptop everything looked exactly like it did before but the laptop operated even faster than it did when it was new.
The slowest part of most modern computers is the hard drive. We can upgrade almost any hard drive to a new solid state model and give you performance that’s hard to believe for the money.
If you are anywhere in the Asheville to Hendersonville area give us a call today to talk about upgrading your aging or brand new desktop or laptop to a solid state hard drive.
This older iMac was brought to us do to it being very slow when trying to open files or use any programs. Initially the user thought that it was because their hard drive was full. We ran diagnostics on the hard drive and determined the slowness was due to a failing, not full, hard drive.
We could have replaced the hard drive with a slower traditional model but chose to upgrade it to a newer, faster SSD (solid state drive). This gave the user plenty of space and had the iMac running better than when it was new.
While we had the iMac open to replace the hard drive we took the chance to clean out the fans and heat sinks along with all the accumulated dust over the years. Between the new SSD drive running considerably cooler than a normal hard drive and the cleaning this iMac should be running faster and cooler than ever.
These upgrades can add several years to an again Apple Mac computer, whether an iMac or Macbook.
If you have a Mac that is slowing down after a few years give us a call to get the hard drive upgraded and breath new life into your aging machine.
The user of this laptop was forced into a Windows 10 update and when it completed it would no longer boot into Windows. The computer would start to boot into the new Windows 10 and would hang for hours on a spinning waiting icon.
We were able to clear the update and get the laptop to boot correctly again and repair any damage done by the unwanted Windows 10 upgrade. Windows 10 works now once any issues had been sorted out with the laptop before the upgrade.
Windows 10 has been out for about 6 months at this point and Microsoft is getting aggressive with updating Windows 7 and 8 users. You should still get a choice on whether or not you want to upgrade but sometimes they are hiding it in amongst other updates you might want.

This HP was several years old and the user reported that it had become sluggish and was waiting several minutes to boot and to open files. Once a couple of programs were open the computer would slow to a crawl and become a pain to use.
We replaced the old standard hard drive with a new solid state hard drive. This computer used to take over 4 minutes to boot and be ready to use. With the new drive it boots in less than 30 seconds and it ready to go.
We can breath new life into computers that are a couple of years old by replacing the traditional spinning hard drive with a new still SSD hard drive. These days the slowest part of many computers is the old hard drive.
