Dirt, dust and debris can slow down, damage and even destroy your computer. It doesn’t matter if you have a desktop, laptop, Mac or PC it has a fan or fans and constantly draws in air for cooling along with dust, pet hair, moisture and just about anything else floating around. Over time this builds up in the fans causing them to slow down or stop working. When the fans aren’t working correctly the computer will overheat, slow down, shut down or cause damage to sensitive components inside.
If your computer is more than a year or two old and hasn’t be blown out and checked for issues bring it to the Asheville Computer Company. As part of our standard diagnosis we clean out, thoroughly, all fans and ventilation. We will also check out all hardware and scan for infections of malware, viruses and nuisance programs.

This customer brought us a gaming PC that was overheating and having issues with performance. We quickly took a look and determined that the CPU fan needed to be replaced due to excessive build-up on the heat sink that was unable to be removed.
We replaced their existing fan and heat sink with a newer and improved version and their system was running cooler than ever!
If you are having issues with your gaming computer or want an upgrade please give us a call.
This iMac was brought to us with the usual issues from a Mac of this age. The user reported that it was running very slow and the fans were loud. They wanted to know if they should spend the money to replace it or was there something that could be done to bring it back to life.
The price of a new iMac could range from $1200 to well over $2000 for a top of the line machine. The truth is that most people don’t need the latest and greatest Mac to do the things they need to do on a computer.
We were able to replace the old and worn out spinning hard drive with a new super fast SSD drive. This new drive is 10x faster than the old drive and runs considerably cooler and quieter. We also took the opportunity to clean the fans and vents to ensure that everything was cooling properly.
We were able to clone the old drive over to the new SSD so the only difference the user saw was the tremendous speed increase. All their files and programs were exactly as they were before the upgrade.
The end result was an iMac that actually ran faster, quieter and cooler than it did when it was new out of the box. It was taking over 5 mins for it to boot up to the desktop before the upgrade. After the upgrade it was ready to go in under 30 seconds and applications responded almost immediately when clicked.
If you have an older Mac and are considering upgrading due to slow performance or space issues then please give us a call first to explore your options. We may be able to upgrade your hard drive or increase your RAM to give you the performance boost you need to make your Mac last.

This HP Compaq computer was a bit older and hadn’t had regular maintenance in quite a while. The customer reported that it was running slow for a while and now started shutting down on it’s own.
As you can see from the before and after photos it was very dirty inside causing it to overheat and shut down to keep from doing damage to the motherboard and CPU. The CPU fan and heat sink were completely clogged with dust and not effective anymore. Once the dust has covered the fins on the heat sink the fan can no longer do it’s job. If this customer didn’t bring the computer in it would have eventually been damaged beyond repair.
We thoroughly cleaned the inside and outside of the PC to make sure there was proper airflow and it could cool effectively. We also replaced a fan that had been damaged by trying to work too hard to cool off the computer. Now it starts up and runs like new!
If it’s been a while since you have had your computer cleaned then give us a call! A little maintenance goes a long way in keeping your computer running as long as possible.
This older custom PC was reported as not booting after thunderstorms rolled through the area. It had been hard to turn on for several days prior often taking several times before it would boot all the way up and into Windows.
Eventually it would not boot at all due to a failed power supply. We were able to replace the power supply with a much higher quality version with a much larger fan that could better handle the heat generated by this older PC build.
As we always do when we get a computer in the shop, we opened the case and cleaned it up thoroughly inside and out. There was several years old dust and built up on all the fans, heat sinks and surfaces inside. This kept the computer from cooling correctly and may have let the the failure of the power supply.
If you have a computer with issues starting or not starting at all it may be due to a bad power supply. Don’t let a bad power supply cause further damage to your computer and possibly cause a loss of data and important files.

This computer was running slow and seemed to be overheating causing slow downs, blue screens and random reboots making it unusable most of the time.
The first step of any computer repair we perform is to clean the computer inside and out. This involves taking off all the covers and cleaning thoroughly. Most desktop computers have 3 or more fans inside from the case fans, cpu fans and power supply fans. Some higher end computers have multiple case fans and large fans on the dedicated graphics card.
If these fans and heat sinks get clogged with dust and debris they can’t do their job and the computer will overheat causing damage and shortening the life of all the components inside.
This computer was cleaned up and runs cooler and quieter than ever. It should have a lot longer life span now that it can’t breathe easier.
If it’s been years since your computer hardware or software has been cleaned up contact us today to setup an appointment. Service now could add years to the life of your computer.

This iMac was very slow to boot up over 5 mins and would get the spinning rainbow pinwheel every time the user tried to do anything. The slow, failing hard drive made the Mac basically unusable. Opening an e-mail or webpage would take several minutes.
We opened up the iMac and cleaned all the fans, backed up the current OSX install completely, installed a new SSD drive and put the all the customers data and programs back in place on the new drive. The customer didn’t notice any difference except that the Mac worked faster than it did when it was new.
If you have a Mac computer and are experiencing slow boot times or the dreaded rainbow pinwheel please call us to discuss your options of repairing or replacing your hard drive or even upgrading to a new SSD drive.
We service Macs in all Asheville areas including Hendersonville, Fletcher, Arden, Biltmore Park, Skyland and Fairview.
This was an older Pentium 4 XP system that a user wanted to keep going but was having issues powering on consistently and would constantly overheat and shut down.
We replaced the power supply, the rear exhaust fan and a DVD drive that hasn’t worked in years. We were able to bring the running temperatures down by about 30 degrees and resolved any stability issues as a result.
If you have an older machine that you would like to keep running but is giving you issues give us a call. We can make your older system run better than new.
We completely cleaned this dirty Dell Optiplex inside and out to let the fans cool efficiently and for the desktop work better and to not overheat. A desktop computer will usually have 3+ fans inside constantly bringing in dirt and debris to clog up the fan itself and any vents used to cool the computer.
If it’s been a while since your computer was cleaned give us a call so that we can ensure it working as efficiently and reliably as possible.
